The “Green Southerners” organization continues to prove, day after day, that environmental protection is a form of action and struggle rooted in hardship, and a continuous effort that is not weakened by fatigue. In a short period of time, the organization has succeeded in establishing new concepts by building an important database on many wildlife species, especially the striped hyena, the grey wolf, the jackal, as well as various carnivorous animals and marine species.
The efforts of the “Green Southerners” have not been limited to protecting ecosystems in Lebanon in general and in the South in particular. They have also led—and continue to lead—a struggle to declare areas rich in biodiversity as natural reserves, from Adloun to Abbasieh (coastal reserves), and through their efforts to establish a natural reserve in the town of Zibqine and its surrounding areas in southern Lebanon. Not to mention their role in initiating the adoption of a Marine Turtles Day, which was officially recognized by the Ministry of Environment as an annual occasion.
