Proposal for National Sea Turtle Day
In September, the organisation submitted a letter proposing the establishment of a National Sea Turtle Day to promote awareness of the importance of sea turtles, marine biodiversity, and marine protected areas, suggesting the fifth of May of each year as the official date. This letter served as a preliminary step to a subsequent petition addressed to the Minister of Environment calling for the protection of sea turtle habitats in South Lebanon. The petition gathered 11,241 signatures and called for declaring the beaches of Zahrani, Sarafand, Adloun, Baqbuq, Mansouri, and Naqoura as nature reserves and preventing violations along these shores. This initiative marked a key milestone in strengthening sea turtle conservation and raising awareness of their ecological value, and it formed part of the organisation’s comprehensive vision for protecting the southern coastline (see programmes).
